There are usually two reasons to repair the BCD:
- You receive an error after Windows startup – “Windows cannot find System Volume Information (SVIP)” or BcdHow.sys file, or something like that. Then you need to repair the bootloader configuration as described in the previous step.
- You receive a Startup Errors screen after Windows startup – error messages may refer to System Volume Information (SVIP), BcdHow.sys and/or a boot partition. These errors may appear after some new hardware installation or Windows upgrade.
Most likely, the first thing you’ll notice after the successful repair of the bootloader configuration is that the Windows 10 Welcome screen appears. If you press F8 or Esc key after the bootloader screen appears, you’ll reach the Windows 10 starting screen. If you still see the Startup Errors screen, it means you haven’t run the BCD How.sys repair procedure above.
After the successful repair of the BCD, you’ll be able to boot Windows 10 normally. If the EFI/SVIP.sys or BcdHow.sys file is missing or corrupted, you may not be able to boot the OS normally. You can try removing the SSD and re-install Windows 10 to check if the file is available on the disk or replace it to get another one from Microsoft. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle []).push({});

devices with windows installations created from custom offline media or custom iso image might have microsoft edge legacy removed by this update, but not automatically replaced by the new microsoft edge. this issue is only encountered when custom offline media or iso images are created by slipstreaming this update into the image without having first installed the standalone servicing stack update (ssu) released march 29, 2021 or later.
