this book is one of my favorites and is a good beginner’s book for the bass. the author, mike clark, was one of the bass buddies in the first bass i book. both books are very good, but if you are getting into the more advanced material, i would recommend chick corea’s book as well. both of these books are easier to find and less expensive.
i have to admit that the jamerson book was the best book i have ever read about bass playing. i am going to spend some time on it today. i have to admit that i have been doing a lot of stuff with my own bass playing over the years, so you might be surprised what you can learn. i have a book called ‘practice, practice, practice’ which i can recommend. i read a lot and i am sure there are some very good bass books out there. but if you want to read great advice and great stories about incredible players then these are the books to check out!
i have a book which i picked up on amazon a few days ago called ‘bass heroes’ – i plan to get a copy of this book soon too and review it. i am a fan of gary green and have a dvd called ‘jammin’ with him on the cover, which i have reviewed before. he is a great player. he was a founding member of the group ‘the wrecking crew’ and was a member of the ‘berklee college of music’ with a degree in jazz studies. what i like about his playing is his use of a ‘bass hero’ approach with very melodic lines, which makes me want to learn more and more about the bass.
.. and many more. this is great for learning the bass and the great bassists. i love the bassist john patitucci in this book, his solo on a love supreme is unreal and i have practised on my own the bass lines he plays. the bass lines in this book are very clever and easy to read which is important when there are no tab sheets. if you are looking for some serious and magical playing, this is a great book to buy.
this is the definitive book on playing bass on the electric bass and is the bible for practicing bass players. see if you can make it through a few practice exercises and get to the point where you can play along with the cd. read up on technique, listen to great players, learn their ways, try to mimic them, and then try to sound like them. you’ll soon be playing bass like a pro.
the book that this is based on is a classic and is so well written it’s actually a pleasure to read. recommended if you want to learn more about what makes great music and how to write bass lines that make great music. you will also learn a lot about rock and roll and jazz and can learn to listen and transcribe bass lines of all the big names in the past and present. there’s a lot of great advice and you’ll learn a lot about what makes up good music.
this book is brilliant and goes into great detail about one of my favourite artists. for anyone who wants to learn to play fingerstyle this is a must read. the book explains how to play the bass in different styles, using scales, modes, modes and arpeggios and techniques that put it all together. he starts off with some great tunes and then goes on to some more challenging stuff. it’s a great book to read for anyone interested in playing fingerstyle bass, but i would highly recommend getting the cd of his album that’s included for extra value.
this is a great book for anyone wanting to learn to play slap. it explains what slap is all about, how it works, and the different styles and techniques involved. it then goes on to give you some great tips on how to practice, use your imagination, and develop your own style. it’s a must read for anyone wanting to learn to play slap and i highly recommend the cd that accompanies it. the cd has loads of essential slap tracks on it to try out and work on, and it’s all played by world class players so you can get some really inspirational material to listen to as well.
