paraguayan violinist jaime daza and his wife, julia daza, are two of barrios’ many friends. daza remembers receiving a letter from barrios about the purchase of a violin he had been given. in the letter, barrios requested that daza play the piece for him. daza recalls that he played the piece several times and that barrios was particularly interested in the way the guitar notes were built in the right hand. as a result, barrios went on to compose una limosna por el amor de dios (alms for the love of god). barrios dedicated the piece to daza. daza’s part was originally written for an orchestra, but the couple later recorded it for solo guitar.

Twenty-five patients with acute ischemic stroke were enrolled in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Thrombolytic therapy consisted of intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) alone or in combination with oral TA 10mg/kg. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either TA or placebo for the first 6 hours after rt-PA. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging was performed 24-72 hours after the start of treatment, and the relative frequency of hemorrhagic transformation was calculated. Fifteen patients (68%) in the TA group and 13 patients (52%) in the placebo group had hemorrhagic transformation (P=0.18). Global hematoma growth was related to hemorrhagic transformation (P=0.01). By multivariate analysis, the presence of hemorrhagic transformation at 24-48 hours was the only independent predictor of hematoma growth (relative risk, 13.7; 95% CI, 3.5-51.7; P=0.0005). In combination with the thrombolytic therapy, TA did not reduce the frequency of hemorrhagic transformation in patients with ischemic stroke.{
