the most notable absence is one that should never have happened to begin with. the pc version of the mlb 2k12 series is missing the inability to assign players to bullpen roles. while it’s certainly something you could argue is a desirable feature, there’s no point in playing without the ability to even attempt to become a better manager than the simulator does it for you.
mlb 2k12 is an unexciting baseball game that hits a lot of the right notes but never takes itself too seriously. while it lacks a compelling storyline, the tactical nuance of using the pickup’s to open opposing players up for great pitching and defense is a nice touch. while it offers a solid baseball experience, there are a lot of areas that could use improvement.
while the 360 version of mlb 2k12 is a worthwhile baseball title, the pc version (aside from a stupidly glaring omission) is obviously left wanting in both the presentation and technical departments. the sheer amount of bugs the game is riddled with (even leaving out major issues that plague the 360 version) is pretty damning. thankfully, the minimum system requirements are surprisingly easy to achieve. this game is not recommended for those under 11 years old.
the only way to play the digital version of the game is on the playstation 3. the game’s loading times are a bit slow when going from areas to areas, but it’s the 3d motion that really pulls the visuals. it may be the most realistic simulation of a baseball game on the playstation 3.
there are some great aspects to mlb 2k12, a fun simulation of a boring game. it’s a good way to pass the time, but it’s not an approachable game. it isn’t until you start messing around with its options that you’ll find the depth. that’s when it becomes fun, but only after a massive learning curve.
