MIDSPLIT

MIDSPLIT is a command line tool designed to split a midi file into two tracks (left hand, right hand).
For example, consider the following midi file:
It contains three tracks and there is a BPM of 144.
Now consider the following case:
Note: There must be at least one BPM track (even though we are not
using a BPM track right now) in order to use MIDSPLIT.
Let’s assume that we are splitting the track with the note “G Major” at the position D#4 (148).
In this case we will have two tracks and the tracks will be left hand and right hand.
The first track will start at BPM (140) and contain tracks with a BPM (note) of 144.
The second track will start at BPM (140) and contain tracks with a BPM (note) of 144.
Let’s also assume that we want to assign the same tracks (and the same channel numbers) to both
tracks.
For example, the first track should start with track 1 and channel 1.
The second track should start with track 1 and channel 1.
Note: If there is no track to split with the given note, MIDSPLIT will assign the two tracks
in the same way (see example below).
So, let’s run MIDSPLIT like this:
Now the following four midi tracks will be written to file:
Let’s now examine this midi file.
To explain the output we will use two BPM tracks which contain the notes “G Major” and “E Major”
respectively.
The first track starts at BPM (140) with the notes “G Major” at notes (0,0) (start point).
The second track starts at BPM (140) with the notes “G Major” at notes (0,0) (start point).
The first track contains notes (0,0) through (0,10).
The second track contains notes (0,0) through (0,10).
Note: MIDSPLIT starts at the start point of the first track.

MIDSPLIT is a small program that quickly splits MIDI files into two tracks.
It is designed to work on the simpler end of the range of “MIDI editors”.
Unfortunately, it is possible to do it with a mouse alone 🙂
If your MIDI file already has multiple tracks, you need to use MIDSPLIT
again on the midi file.
MIDSPLIT reads MIDI files from standard input.
It creates a MIDI file with two tracks, each track contains only notes
on the given track.
For the standard MIDI file format, only two types of notes are saved:
￭ notes that are on the given track
￭ notes that are on the other track
MIDSPLIT can optionally:
￭ save the midi parameters of the left and right tracks

The channels are the same as the original tracks.

MIDSPLIT reads a binary file and splits a track at a given point in time
into two tracks (left and right). Note that by default, it would assume that the
first parameter is a track number (0=1) and the second parameter is the channel number
(0=1). If you choose to modify this assumption, simply specify the second parameter
to be the channel number and the first parameter to be the track number.
You can also specify the split point via the TIME parameter.

For example, in this example you can split the track at a given point into a left hand and
a right hand and assign the tracks new channel numbers.

For example, if you run this command

midsplit.exe file1.mid file1.midi

it would result in this
