we were impressed with the adaptation of reacher for the small screen, and especially loved the casting of ritchson as reacher. though there was room for improvement, we breezed through the episodes. it should also be noted that we felt the series got better as the season went along right up to the finale, but were only able to watch the first five episodes for review. here’s our review.

amazon ordered a second season of reacher on feb. 7, 2022, just days after the first season premiered. however, amazon has not announced a premiere date for season 2. going by the formula of tv series returning a year after the previous season, we’d guess that season 2 would air sometime in early 2023. season 2 will begin filming this fall.

why did the show move from the university of texas in austin to a fictional town in florida? the new setting makes sense — margrave, florida, is a suburb of tallahassee, and margrave is the town where the heroes of the first book in the reacher series live. but why didn’t they pick up on the rest of the cast, who also live in texas? a few more cast members also were unavailable, including roscoe conklin, who was still in the movie theater business. better luck next time.

the show’s big hook is that it’s based on the spinoff of the best-selling book series by lee child, in which reacher is essentially an investigative assistant to a former secret service agent who also has a penchant for proving himself the hero.

if you like a little glee in your films, you’ll love reacher. the premise of the series is so much like that show, from the arc of the teen girl and her friends to the fashion choices of the principal — this show is really glee on bikes. let’s just hope glee doesn’t sue for reacher.
