if it’s a large parts they would probably want it. they might be interested in metal casting. someone mentioned blender. i used to use blender. have no idea how that is. i would imagine they would be interested in it.
it’s not enterprise-level, but it’s just as easy to use as solidworks, and is the only cad i’ve ever seen make a product. it takes some time to figure out the interface and their goal is to help users get on the ‘quick and dirty’ design. the community of users is smaller, but still very active.
the most interesting feature for me was the layout of the part creation files. if i want to make all the parts from a one big mold, i just make one part and use the meshes of everything i want to use from that mold. the parts don’t need to be connected together, because i can snap them together later.
or if i want to make a mechanism, i make one central component, with everything else connected to it, using the method described above. this is how most of my parts are created, although not all of them. for example, my parts tend to be modeled as just a part, rather than as assembled models, so i can change the configuration later and make new parts.
