Hi all, for any scripters who want to create drivers for Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RTM > 1607, I have written the 64bit driver since it works on all 64bit CPUs. It has at the top of all the appropriate licensing required by Microsoft and is required for any protected APIs. I have compiled the driver using Visual Studio 2013. There is no ia32.lib or any 32bit DLLs installed. All 64bit related files are in a folder called “Windows8_1”. Even when creating a basic Windows 8.1 kernel based installation the default generic drivers install OK. Also I have placed a file called A20.cat, containing a file A20_original, a file A20_current and the file A20_target. These correspond to the files available from http://download.intellinuxd.org/win8.1-1607/FULL/ , the aim being to give the user the option of changing the driver after a successful installation. The main idea is to use the 32bit equivalents where possible, this is a windowing application.
One of the problems I have is the Intel HT drivers as it seems they require for any Intel chipset driver to be submitted to Intel. At the moment my laptop does not have an Intel chipset thus it is in the “i915.kext” that gives any graphics over USB devices and generic drivers. I can get a graphics up and running with the i915.kext which allows me to use VGA and also get to where I can use my on-board GPU to provide a 3D effect but this is a fudged driver by NVIDIA . I suspect there is a way to get the most recent VGA drivers for all Intel models but since I am not up to any of that then I will settle for using VGA. At the moment the generic drivers that Intel provide allow me to use the on-board graphics and this lets me use the BIOS for its purposes which is good. There is no problem using windows 8 on this laptop and I have yet to get to the point where I actually need to use the discrete graphics however the proprietary driver crashed when I started win8. I suspect this will not be a problem for your readers.
