Tumsa Nahin Dekha as fondly remembered by me was a beautifully scripted movie, and as is noted in the Nasir Hussain documentary the script and direction by nasir is inspired. Shammi is superb,and the songs I remember were Bachchan classic, SUJEET KA MEHTAZA KA MEHTAZA, BETI BETI BAATI BAATI, and how could I forget the tune CHANDE KA ANDARIAN EK CHORNA, I just love that song.

Thank you for the detailed description of Tumsa Nahin Dekha. I had to know if the story/plot had changed as it sounded familiar. Now I know from the various sources of information that it did not change much and was always about separated parents reuniting after many years.

Tumsa Nahin Dekha was the first film for Shammi Kapoor after being selected for Dev Anand’s Zanjeer remake opposite Dev Anand’s daughter Sheila. (In fact he’d briefly been a part of Dev Anand’s directorial debut, Raja Harishchandra, though he was uncredited, and his appearance was uncredited in Dev Anand’s Mom-in-law Kama Raja as well). Tumsa Nahin Dekha marked a new beginning for Shammi Kapoor as a villain. From here on out he became one of India’s most popular villains and one of my most favorite Hindi actors.

I just remembered reading somewhere that while Kanta was doing Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Shammi was recording his voice for the first time. He was doing it all alone, and his first recording, of course, was the song RENDU ROHAN MAHI, for which he did not miss a single note. In fact, Tumsa Nahin Dekha was the only film in which Shammi, singing for the first time, made a mistake, and he never missed a single note, ever, throughout all the songs in the film.
