Assign buttons to control movements of the aircraft by turning the wheel and assign switches to control other motion. Most games will work with this configuration, but some may require additional button configuring. Repeat the process for as many control devices as needed on the joystick.

With everything configured we can begin running the simulator. Start XPlane, load the gta vice city preset and choose joystick.The joystick will appear, with the base now attached to the simulated aircraft as a flight controller. Press the Start button and start the simulator.

When the aircraft takes off and the screen changes to X, press the joystick buttons to control various flight aspects. Feel how many of the buttons are used. Note that the more buttons you press, the faster the airplane will take off. Left axis button controls airspeed and directional movement. Use it to turn or move the aircraft. Right axis button controls pitch and roll. Use it to turn the aircraft in or out of the horizon. If you are in any kind of a rush, you can also use the thrust button to increase or decrease thrust to control forward or reverse velocity.

The joystick configuration includes detailed in-flight controls for the aircraft. When first starting the simulator, you may see some apparent buttons missing. This is normal, as some of the aircraft are missing the buttons/switches. Press the triangle button on the base to display a list of the available buttons and switches for all control devices. Now you can assign new functions to the available buttons.

When you boot up GTA Vice City for the first time, you will have to start the game once in the main menu (choose Home to start the game with the game options displayed) then start the game a second time in the main menu (or just press Left/Right on the gamepad if you used an external or wired gamepad).
To modify the flight controls, press the Flight Controls button at the bottom of the Joystick settings screen. Here you will find sliders for thrust, roll, pitch, and yaw. Any input device, including the joystick, rudders, yoke, and throttle quadrant controls, can be configured to control all four axes.
Sensors are the devices that allow the PC to detect inputs from a device, such as a keyboard or a joystick, and record them. In Joystick settings, you will be able to choose from the list of compatible games, and define all the necessary details of each game. A joystick has three sensors:
You will need to modify the settings to make the joystick and/or gamepad work with GTA Vice City. This is how it works, we first modify the “Joystick” settings, then the “Logitech Settings” and then the “Acekard Settings.
The configuration screen allows you to select a controller type, enable Bluetooth and then configure joystick and radio buttons. The configuration screen will default to X360 controller mode, with a wireless Bluetooth MIDI cable. To change the setting, select one of the available devices from the drop-down list (e.g. PS3 Controller, Xbox 360 Gamepad, etc.). Press the OK button to save your settings and close the configuration screen.
