POV-Ray was originally developed in the early 1990’s by Gary Vogel and is now in the public domain.
If you haven’t already, I strongly suggest that you try out POV-Ray before proceeding to the tutorials. The free version of POV-Ray does not include some of the more advanced features like complex shaders, hence you would have to pay for one of the commercial versions to get those features.

If your computer is on a Windows 95/98/2000 computer, you should be able to install the software with a double-click of the *.exe file.
The installer should detect your system and should install itself in the following way:
If your system is a Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 computer:

– In the window that pops up, press the F4 key again.
