If you’re an out-of-the-box Windows 7 user, you may want to try upgrading to Windows 8 for better performance on your system. I do. Without giving anything away, you’ll find the new version of Lightroom handles images much better than the old one. In addition, if you use Lightroom to edit on a large external drive connected to your computer such as a RAID enclosure, the new version will only ask you for a password BEFORE the entire Lightroom catalogue is uploaded to the drive. This is a big improvement over the old version, as before, you’d have to reenter a password each time you switched between Lightroom’s Catalogs on separate drives. Overall, Lightroom 5 is a big improvement over Lightroom 4. I think in some ways, it’s become an even better app than when it was first released. And, it’s gotten even better over the release cycle.

Now, I know you’ve never used Photoshop as your primary tool for creating HD images. You’ve always worked with a DSLR, and I know you’ve grown tired of being restricted to the camera’s native resolution. But have you ever considered using a DSLR to create HD images, or at least sized images that are at least twice as big as your camera’s native resolution?

If your answer is no, you’re not alone. Mac user tipster Minjopuxe has just posted a short tutorial on how to create HD images at least twice the size of a camera’s native resolution using Photoshop or Lightroom, then eventually create the files you want into a DSLR.

Here’s an example: To create an HD image that is at least twice as large a DSLR’s native resolution. File size is another variable, and can be gigabytes for large images, so it’s best to calculate how many times larger the image needs to be, and go from there. For example, a feature of Photoshop to create an HD image is to make the file size the same, so if an image is 10,000px by 10,000px, reducing it to 5,000 by 5,000px makes the file size the same. What’s confusing about this? Well, why would you want an image that’s twice as big as a smaller image you already have? The reason is you can crop the image, and crop less, to avoid having your image file size jump out of control. For example, to create an HD image of 10,000px by 10,000px, you would apply a 4,000px crop, effectively reducing the image to 5,000 by 5,000px. A 4,000px crop is a little over half of the 10,000px by 10,000px image. The reason it’s better to crop in Photoshop is it has advanced editing features, like smart previews and the ability to create selection tools, which directly relate to crop selection.

When you first start up Photoshop CC 2020 the browser will prompt you to indicate if you are logged in to a Creative Cloud account (sometimes referred as a “CC account”). If you are returning to Photoshop from the desktop, now you’ll be able to seamlessly rejoin your existing desktop apps, including Illustrator CC, Photoshop CC, InDesign CC, and more. But if you’re using a web‑based workflow, you’ll be prompted to download the Creative Cloud desktop client application before you can run the web‑based apps.

The Blend tool (formerly the Hue/Saturation tool) lets you apply one or more colors from the color palette. You can’t redo old edits such as the Graduated Filter. Only the sliders you used for it can be moved. In fact, you can’t even undo new edits (though you can in a separate tool called Undo History). But I’m glad that’s not a problem. In general, I found Lightroom 5 to be very fast, and snappy. You’ll find it to be quite stable, as well. My experience with Lightroom was as smooth as I’ve experienced before with Lightroom 4. This 10-year-old program finally looks like an upgrade to me. Perhaps its chief achievement is making connections and keeping them.

I was able to get my images looking better than anything I’d ever seen in my previous tools. This was because of the new dSLR lens correction features, and the new autofocus and exposure algorithms that I was able to get working as well. I must admit, that after shooting with this dSLR, I was quite enthusiastic about upgrading to Lightroom 5. The improvement in quality has been substantial though. And, having used other image-manipulation programs, I was somewhat skeptical with the new interface. I thought that familiarity with it would help me click through new features quickly:

But this new approach was so slick, and so easy to use, I became frustrated with how fast I could work. It’s a great system. And it let me be very fast. Previously, I would redo my image on my computer, saving it initially for processing. Next, I would take a portion of the image to edit separately. I would then be able to quickly return after a couple of minutes to pick up where I left off, and so on.

Your photographs are not only pictures of events, products, logos and etc in your life; you are also the photographer of them. Phobos API allows users to expose their own custom data types to Adobe Photoshop CS5.0 or later.
