Lightroom 5 may be the last major update to the application. While I’m on the subject of Lightroom, it makes me think that there was too much change in one version. I’m sure they have done things right with Lightroom 5. But I think that it is not right and I’m sure have done a few mistakes and I’m very proud of Lightroom 4 because I didn’t use it in production mode, and I didn’t use it under these conditions. I used to use Lightroom 4 before I use Lightroom 5.

In the years since I originally posted this article, Adobe has reorganized the product offering around Photoshop. In the months and years to come, it’s likely Photoshop will change dramatically. But, for now, this list offers a good overview of what you need from PS.

Photoshop is a professional-grade graphics program that was among the first popular commercial applications to use layers. Simply put, layers are the invisible structure of an image. Photoshop allows you to bring together images, shapes, objects, and other bits of information, and arrange them in any order you want.

Photoshop offers a host of color, photo, and video editing options, but the latest update added high dynamic range (HDR) capabilities to the program. Users can now animate transforms and transitions, insert animation to a guide, link animation to a layer and layer group, and easily animate effects with the Layer Mask palette. Layers that meet specific filter conditions can receive new effects and other edits through the new Content-Aware Change feature. The new Content-Aware mask features are now available in the Clean Up contextual menu item.

The process of digital image production is completely different from the analogue. In an analogue photo, in order to make your pictures look good, everything had to proceed like a planned step by step, from the camera settings to the printing process. Digital photography is a much more flexible process. In this case, the photographer chooses the camera settings, then looks at the settings menu and chooses these settings to work with later on.

Analogue photos are predictable, while digital ones are flexible and are indirectly prepared and ready to be edited by the photographer. In an analogue photo, if you tried to change the settings or close the algorithm and changed the picture and wanted to open it in Photoshop, there would be everything prepared in the camera settings. The picture would be split in layers, the white balance would be the same, colors would be the same, and so on. In this case, if you want to change anything in the process of taking pictures, you have to start over. In digital photography, if you decide to change the settings from laptop, you just have to start working with the picture right away.

The new Design Sprint allows designers to make more decisions, often based on quick prototypes, rather than lengthy deliberations on research and definition. The time saved can be used to improve the product or solve another part of the design process. Design Sprint Tools can be created by design teams, come pre-built, or be tailored into the product by a Creative Technical Lead and QA team.

Adobe’s new 5.0 release will be released in the following phases, with the full Visual Effects Suite (Creative Cloud Desktop customers) and other on-premises users available in the first phase on September 13; Adobe Revel customers will be able to download a full update early on October 10; and all Creative Cloud Desktop customers will receive access to the new capabilities on October 11. In the fall, Adobe announced it will offer two incompatible versions of Photoshop, that requires users to upgrade to new versions if they stay on the old desktop version. You can now do this by clicking the Font Size icon in the bottom-right corner of the Options bar and then enter hexidecimal digits into the measurement prompt. For example, setting the font size from 10pt to 100% would place the new font size at 1 pixel. Analogously, setting the font to 100% would put it at 100 pixels in height.
